PROUD short film is a fictional story inspired by real life experiences of Jackie Dallas who grew up as the only Asian American girl in a small U.S. town. Despite being born in the U.S., Jackie’s cultural identity was constantly questioned.
PROUD depicts challenges she faced growing up, and how regular encounters that ranged from innocent curiosity to malicious discrimination lead Jackie to initially reject her Asian heritage before learning to embrace and be proud of her roots.
PROUD short film is the story of many first and second generation Asian Americans. It is a story about finding one’s cultural identity between being American and ethnically Asian, a story about carving out ones own path and thriving!
